KETTERING CLUB COMPETITIONS. LAING TROPHY: 2008/9 Holders Colin Porch &
Amy Cherry. Won by the pair with the highest total of 7 percentages from the
12 monthly rounds. Nearly always played on the second Friday of the month. RANSLEY MEMORIAL CUP: 2008/9 Holders Colin Porch & Amy Cherry. Won by the pair with the lowest total of seven positions in the twelve Friday heats. Rounds take place on the first Friday of the month. JOHN MANNING TROPHY: 2008/9 Holders Jimmy Deacon, Susan Deacon, Robert Miller, Chris. Wormleighton. Won by the team with the lowest total of seven positions from twelve Thursday heats, held on the first Thursday of the month). JOHN WALSHAW CUP:

held on the third Thursday of each month. FOUNDERS TROPHY: 2007/8 Holders Robert Miller, Peter Coleman, Jimmy Deacon, Susan Deacon. Four teams will qualify for the knockout stages from the heat held on Thursday 25th September when all players must play with two different players from their team. In the semi-final and final each team member plays an equal number of boards with all three other team members. KETTERING CUP: 2008/9 Holder Colin Porch. Won by the individual having the highest total of 10 percentages from the 27 heats. Heats are Friday session which are not Ransley or Laing rounds. Duplicate pairs, but a player can only count the best 8 with one partner. Two scores must be with different partners. NATIONWIDE TROPHY: 2008 Holders Mark Hodgson & Robert Miller. A Thursday event using the Butler scoring system. Prize money to first, the highest intermediate ranked pair and the highest non-experts. Thursday 29th October. VERA BARLOW CUP: 2008/ NOT AWARDED THIS YEAR. Usually awarded annually to the most
improved club member(s). KETTERING OPEN COMPETITIONS. COLIN PORCH TROPHY: 2008 Holders Graham & Berry Hedley. An Open Swiss Pairs competition played on the first Sunday in December in two sessions. Seven individual matches are played and computer scored by an EBU Director. Visitors welcome but space is limited to 20 tables and prior booking is essential. Prize money usually to top three plus best first half and best second half. CHARITY SALVER: 2008 Holders Jimmy & Susan Deacon. This is a pairs event held on the Saturday evening of the August Bank Holiday at 7pm. Room hire charges: FANS (Friday
afternoons) Club £20; Ladies' (Wednesday afternoons) Club £20; Visitors
matches £20; County competitions £12.
Members' private matches £12; Instruction purposes £10. All events at level three conventions unless otherwise stated. We meet on Mondays at 7.30 for beginners (Level two conventions). There is a host system, so you can turn up without a partner. 21 boards is the norm. No Master Points. ALSO ON MONDAY: AFTERNOON AND EVENING LESSONS. Learn to play this great game. Ladder winner 2007/8 Sheila Parkhouse. Thursday at 7.30 is the high-powered evening, 24-28 boards. Please check Forthcoming Events. Usually, the first and third Thursday in the month are teams (John Manning Trophy and John Walshaw cup). There may be scheduled events on other Thursdays such as the Founders' Teams qualifier, the Nationwide or matches. Friday 7.30 usually has 27 boards with Master Points. The first Friday of the month is the Ransley Trophy rounds, the second Friday is the Laing and other Fridays are Kettering Cup rounds. Saturday 7.00 has no Master Points but it does have a coffee break with raffle! Not too serious, social evening with a host system, so please come along. |
